Note from the
Owner of Equinox Sound;
You may say, "wow,
this name looks awfully familiar." If you think you recognize
it, you are absolutely right -- Dr. Jim Parsons is my father.
For years I've been trying to get him to use his skills as a
benefit to my clients and only now has his schedule allowed him
to do so. I'm confident that his witty sense of humor, his
polished nature in front of huge crowds and his ability to work
with everyone putting a smile on their face, makes him the
perfect option as an event emcee. If you think I'm just bragging
about a member of my family, read on -- his background should
say it all.
Jim Parsons
received both a B.A. and an M.A. from the University of
Kentucky. His Ph.D. was from The University of Texas, 1976, with
a major in All Level - General Curriculum and areas of specialty
in Social Studies, Literature, and Reading. His public school
teaching experience includes three years teaching in a 7th
grade, block-time, social studies-language arts-reading program
in Louisville, Kentucky, where he was debate coach.
Jim has been a
professor at the University of Alberta in Edmonton since 1976,
and currently, holds a position as the Director of the Masters
of Educational Studies alternative-delivery graduate program in
the Faculty of Education. Jim has worked with the Government of
Alberta as the Coordinator of the Alberta Initiative for School
Improvement and taught at other Canadian and U.S. universities,
including The University of New Brunswick, St. Bonaventure
University, The University of Lethbridge, Royal Roads
University, North American Baptist College and Seminary,
Concordia Lutheran Seminary, among others.
Jim’s past work
includes a large international teacher education project in
central China to “renovate” the Chinese English language
curriculum, and educate Chinese teachers of English to teach
more dynamically and conversationally. Jim is a former junior
women’s basketball coach at a local Sherwood Park High School.
Jim is an avid hiker who loves the open spaces of New Zealand
and Vancouver Island. He has held a number of international
positions on social studies committees and has served as the
Alberta Representative to the Baptist General Conference in
Chicago. Jim is listed in Who's Who In Alberta, International
Who's Who In Education, Who's Who In Canada, and the Dictionary
of International Biography.
Jim was the 1995
Faculty of Education Undergraduate Teaching Award winner; a 2007
Co-Winner of the Alberta Teachers’ Association - Education
Research Award with Phillip McRae, Director Alberta Initiative
for School Improvement; and the 2007 Co-Winner of the University
of Alberta’s Inaugural Talented People Award.
In short, Jim has
been asked to speak to thousands of eager listeners
and would love to do the same for you. Bring him in as a
tasteful, decorated speaker for your event and you'll have your
guests in awe at his ability to tell great stories related to
your big event.
